I am a highly regarded music teacher who, since 1993, has been providing lessons in singing, piano, guitar, bass, drums, theory and composition.
As a professional musician, I have extensive experience in performance in a variety of contexts such as solo, ensemble, ceilidh and rock concerts.
Lessons are available online or at my Teaching Studio in Banchory, Aberdeenshire, Scotland.
I am a music teacher who focuses on meeting the learning needs of the individual while developing the student in music theory and/or practice. While studying for my Teaching Diploma, I developed an interest in the Psychology of Learning and this informs my teaching practice. After graduating, with Distinction, I undertook an undergraduate degree in Music (BMus) at the University of Aberdeen. On graduating with a 2:1, I progressed to Masters level by studying for an MMus in Composition under Dr. Phillip Cooke.
My academic interest in the education field is in the student-teacher interaction and my teaching approach is designed around student-centred learning. This means that the student benefits from lessons that are tailored according to their preferred learning styles.
With a breadth of knowledge and experience ranging from Classical (Reading) through to Jazz (Improvisation) and Composition, I will develop your skills, in a way that suits your learning preference. I teach in a classical style but this does not mean that you have to study classical music!
