Seems like a good day to explain this musical concept. Music is like Maths, in reverse. Letters are converted to numbers, so that things equate. Play A+D. Sounds nice? Play other notes 4 apart. Equates? May the 4th be with you

Lessons are for learning. Performances are for performing. Let yourself learn.

Students of the Performing Arts think that lessons are about getting it right. I teach my students how to learn, freeing them to learn in other areas of their lives.

The word music means, "coming from the muses". Studying music develops skills in communicating what we say, the sound and non-verbal messages we give.

Lockdown Lesson: Today´s lesson covers reading rhythms, which are split between Tenor and Bass parts. A Berceuse from Charles Duncan´s modern approach to classical guitar is used as an example.

Stay at home. Stay playing.

One compliment which I received sums it all up, "Thanks for the lessons. My son has learned a bit on Guitar, but he walks taller and he is more confident about learning". It gives me great joy to help Students to succeed - educationally. Out of interest, the Student in question earned Grade 5 ...

One compliment which will always stick with me is, "Thank you for the lessons. My son can play a little better, but he walks taller....his maths is better". Seeing Students succeed is a great joy. The boy, of whom the mother spoke, achieved Grade 5 in three years. That's not, "a little better", ...

I am an adult guitar beginner and have been working with Robin since September 2019. I have found Robin to be very patient and a great teacher of not just how to play the guitar but he has introduced me to the fascinating wider world of music. Robin answers my endless questions and always makes my lesson time with him very interesting. I always feel that Robin strikes the right balance between the lesson time being constructive/challenging/supportive/positive experience and fun. Thanks to Robin I will now have a lifelong interest in classical guitar.

Been getting lessons with Robin for a while now, he has an innovative teaching style which allows not only playing skill to increase lesson upon lesson, but also promotes a deeper understanding of how and why music works the way it does. I learn something new every single time

My 6 year old has been going to Robin for drumming lessons for some time now and it has been great seeing him develop his eagerness to bang on drums into learning beats. He has come on so well under Robin’s tuition! Now that he is learning rhythms, Robin sets the level just high enough to make him work but not so hard that he gets bored and loses interest. Highly recommended! 5 Stars!

Singing|Piano|Guitar|Drumming Lessons

I am a highly regarded music teacher who, since 1993, has been providing lessons in singing, piano, guitar, bass, drums, theory and composition.

As a professional musician, I have extensive experience in performance in a variety of contexts such as solo, ensemble, ceilidh and rock concerts.

Lessons are available online or at my Teaching Studio in Banchory, Aberdeenshire, Scotland.

Teaching Background

I am a music teacher who focuses on meeting the learning needs of the individual while developing the student in music theory and/or practice. While studying for my Teaching Diploma, I developed an interest in the Psychology of Learning and this informs my teaching practice. After graduating, with Distinction, I undertook an undergraduate degree in Music (BMus) at the University of Aberdeen. On graduating with a 2:1, I progressed to Masters level by studying for an MMus in Composition under Dr. Phillip Cooke.

Teaching Style

My academic interest in the education field is in the student-teacher interaction and my teaching approach is designed around student-centred learning. This means that the student benefits from lessons that are tailored according to their preferred learning styles.

With a breadth of knowledge and experience ranging from Classical (Reading) through to Jazz (Improvisation) and Composition, I will develop your skills, in a way that suits your learning preference. I teach in a classical style but this does not mean that you have to study classical music!
